Avalon Waterways Specialist

My home while cruising the Danube

A great vacation for me is hiking some awesome trails, seeing something new, and learning interesting things to tell my friends back home. The Avalon Waterways Active and Discovery on the Danube cruise did just that for me. Check, check, and check. I sailed from Linz, Austria, to Budapest, Hungary. The cruise was a very different vacation. I was used to loading up my car to take a road trip to the remote mountains or the desert. On the Avalon Waterways cruise, I met a lot of people easily because of the intimate number of passengers. Compared to the megaships which have a passenger count in the thousands, the Avalon ships have about 166 passengers. The ship’s small size allowed it to go into the heart of the city where we were close to the activities. The Active and Discovery themed cruises offered excursions everyday like hikes, bike tours, and canoeing which were perfect options for me, the active traveler. No wasted at-sea days here. I could also choose a city tour, visit a palace, or take a cooking class making wiener schnitzel, which was what I did. I came home with a new recipe and hands-on experience!
